When I realized that I had forgotten to take Mason's monthly sticker photo this month I quickly did it on Wednesday night. I didn't put too much time or thought into these pictures. It was just sort of a let's get this done sort of thing. Mason wasn't happy, so we only took a few. He started to get upset, so I put my camera down, and reached to pick him up off the floor. As I was picking him up, I heard a pop in my right heel area with a sudden pain, and I fell to the floor. Mason was fine, but I knew something was majorly wrong with my ankle/leg/foot. I just didn't know what.
I went to urgent care where it took over an hour for me to be seen. They finally called me back for an Xray, and then took me to a treatment room. I waited another 30 minutes to see the doctor. This time I was holding my breath so I didn't pick up any germs.
My swollen ankle. It took only seconds to look like this.
At this point it was close to closing time, and the doctor looked at my Xrays and said that nothing was broken, so I must have sprained it. He didn't even look at my foot. I told him that this felt nothing like a sprain, and I had sprained my ankle before. He said that this must just be a new kind of sprain...ok, your the doc... must be. I was told to start walking on my foot within 3 days.
Yesterday I started searching the Internet, because I knew I was not experiencing pain from an ankle sprain. My symptoms led me to believe that I had a tear in my Achilles tendon, so I made an appointment with a podiatrist, and saw the doctor first thing this morning.
It seems that I have an extra bone in the back of my heel/ankle area. The bone fractured, and completely broke away from the bone it was attached to. Right now, I am wearing a boot for 2 weeks (I about died when they put that thing on), and will be seen again to determine whether or not it will need surgery. The doctor isn't sure if it will start to heal, or heal correctly, so she may have to surgically remove the bone. Ack!!
If you know me, you know that I have an extremely busy schedule shuttling the kids back and forth to school. Trin goes half days, so there are some days I'm back and forth 3 times a day 3 days a week. The school is about 30 minutes away, so I do a lot of driving. Not only driving, but I have to walk about a 1/4 of a mile to walk Neen to and from her class. And, let me tell you...walking on crutches with an almost 7 month old in a bjorn is hard work. I've had to rethink how to do everything.
I also realized just today that I can drive left footed. It's a little tricky, but it's doable.
You gotta do whatcha gotta do!
I guess this will make me slow down a little. Maybe, I can use this time to work on my Christmas swap with my Mommy friends. I guess I just need to learn to sew left footed. ;)

This makes me feel ill and sad for you. :( I cannot BELIEVE you were doomed to this, after the year you've already had!!!!!! Dang it!!!!
Misty, I am SO mad at urgent care for not only making you wait, but for misdiagnosing you! Thankfully you went with your gut and did some researching! I hope surgery isn't what it will come down too - but if it will provide you with the necessary relief, then I wish you a speedy recovery. Because I know how difficult it is to hobble around on one foot in pain with two kids (let alone 4!). Hugs to you! - Judie
Misty- what a year! I wish we lived closer so I could help. Sending helpful, healing thoughts your way.

Stupid Urgent care! I'm so sorry, Misty. I am sick for you that there are so many things you are having to tweak just to make the day to day work. What a pain! Here's hoping this goes very quickly and that surgery is not in your future.
I'm so so sorry that you have to deal with THIS now, too! I hope you don't need surgery and can find a way to make this as easy as possible!
I am so sorry! I so wish there was something I could do to help. I just still can't believe this happened. But I hope you are able to enjoy slowing down some.
Ack! No, not this! How frustrating and miserable. I am sooooo sorry, Misty. Like life isn't busy and tough enough already. I'm sure you are dealing with this with the grace with which you deal with everything. I just wish I could be there to help.
You girls are making me feel so loved!! Thank you for your sweet comments!
Sorry I'm late to the love fest but Misty, I so feel for you, girl! I broke my foot in high school and it was a good 4 months before I was back to dancing like a fool on the weekends. :) I'm praying your foot recovers quickly and FULLY and without surgery! Take it as easy as you can and trust God for the rest. Love you!
